The port area is particularly nice.
The city’s port boasts the deepest waters in Europe, as a result many med cruise ships regularly dock in the port.
Rumour has it NATO has their submarines based here too
Also within the port area there is a magnificent Roman Amphitheatre
The site contains a museum , and you pass thru various levels in the museum via lift.
At the top of the museum is the exit into the top of the Amphitheatre
BUS : Bus depart for CARTAGENA from bus stop 8 in Lo Pagan (47 MOVIBUS/ALSA bus)
Although the distance is not that far, the bus takes best part of an hour. But on the postive it does visits loads of small unique towns and villages on the way.
If travelling by bus. take the left out of station and the port area would be approx 15min walk away.
Note in the height of summer it might be best to pay for a taxi in one direction, as it can get very hot in the city .
CAR: Driving takes about 35 mins from Lo Pagan. There are no tolls and the A70 will take you directly into the heart of the city.
The city is well laid out with very wide tree lined streets. Thus driving is easier than in some other cities
Drive straight as far as possible, you will then hit a HUGE roundabout, take the exit by the left of the REPSOL garage
Drive down this road until you see the sea on right side, then look out for Parking sign directing you down to an underground car park.
At the moment there is some development in the front of the port. But it is still a nice area to visit
There is a cheap and massive car park situated BENEATH the whole port area. Once within port area have a look for Parking signs
NOTE: within CATAGENA most PARKING is NOT FREE so check for Pay and Display Machines nearby.
Even with a car hire, councils will chase and recover their PENALTY fines.
